Chippo Currency Issued Next Markets Day

This privately-issued currency becomes less valuable the longer you hold onto it.  After ten months it has no value; the date of issue will be on each Chippo Dollar along with its expiry date.  It loses $1 each month.  This means the currency will be used more quickly and will be more useful in the local economy.  For examples of successful local community currency projects read:  The Future of Money by Lietarr, or www.monbiot.com/archives/2009/01/20/a-better-way-to-make-money/

At the Markets on Saturday 21 March, Daria and Joel will issue the first Chippo Dollar which is worth $10 plus $10 fruit and vegies and will be initially offered to local unemployed folk who must garden for two hours in the food gardens on our streets on the day of or before the Dollar and fruit and veggies are handed out.

We aim to get as many Chippo cafes and businesses to honour the note so that, for example, the bearer of the Chippo Dollar could go and have $10 worth of coffee and cake at participating cafes.  The cafe owner may offer the Chippo Dollar as change to Chippo locals who will accept and spend it in Chippo.

The list of gardening jobs will be on our web page this week and will include training and working in composting, pruning, planting trees, choosing plants;wwwfoodforthefuturefair.org.

Tell anyone you know who is out of work to come and talk to Daria and Joel at the Saturday markets, and it is they who will issue the first Chippo Dollar.  Enquiries:  michael@sustainablehouse.com.au
